Our inspiration: A journey into traditional music
Tradmusic-howtoo began from a personal experience. After playing in folk bands and often being thrust into situations without clear instructions, I realised there was a need for a guide. I wanted to create a resource that offered practical advice on how to play in and lead traditional dance bands here in the UK. This platform is a culmination of those experiences, designed to help others navigate the vibrant world of traditional music with confidence.
Our expertise: Years of playing and leading
My 'how-to' advice stems from years of hands-on experience in traditional music. I've had the pleasure of playing guitar, mandolin, and violin in various ceilidh and country dance bands. Beyond formal performances, I've also participated in countless sessions, and importantly, I've had the privilege of leading many of them. This diverse background allows me to offer practical insights and guidance that are rooted in real-world traditional music settings.
Our audience: Keeping folk music alive
With Tradmusic-howtoo, our goal is to reach everyone who has an interest in traditional music, regardless of their current skill level. From absolute beginners taking their first steps, to experienced players looking for new insights, and even those curious about the genre – we want to engage you all. Parts of folk music are slowly fading, and it would be a great shame to lose these rich traditions.
